OPPORTUNITY: Top ABB customers asked for advanced services and faster parts replacement to keep their plants up and running, where production downtime can cost up to $2 million per minute.
SOLUTION: An Autodesk® Fusion Connect-certified systems integration partner created an electronically-opened inventory locker system that also includes a barcode or RFID scanner. Spare parts are placed in these lockers and shipped globally to customers who sign up for a parts consignment program. Via GPRS cellular connectivity, the lockers restrict who can access the units and record what user added or removed inventory, and how much. The Fusion Connect-powered cloud application manages a workflow whereby target stocking levels are analyzed and supply signals are sent to ABB’s back office systems to send out new parts based on rules. ABB customers are billed automatically upon using the parts and receive fresh inventories without having to fill out paperwork.
SOLUTION TIME: 30 days for software, 6 months for custom hardware from partner.
INNOVATION RESULT: The program results in new parts services revenue and additionally is generating valuable intelligence about when to sell a new product, based on excessive part replacements. ABB acquired an additional 100 customers over the first two years of service and increased core products sales 150% over prior years.
